Persephone And The Pomegranate was first inspired by the desire to transform a spoken piece – my one-woman-show “The Pomegranate Seed” – into written form. Many of these posts are taken from the show: re-worked to stand alone on the page. The pomegranate seed is anything that causes us to awaken, usually by first robbing us of our innocence and then bringing about a transformation. The darkness and light are all mixed up here; what is at first a negative experience can turn out to be a positive event.
I have been drawn to the myth of Persephone since I was a child. At first I was absorbed by her abduction and separation from her mother. Then as I got older I started to see the gift of the seed of death and re-birth, how Persephone has an unusual opportunity to discover herself because she has been removed from her tribe.
